Why you'll regret NOT moving overseas

Subject: How Moving Overseas Can Change Your Life

Hey

Ten years ago, I made a decision that completely changed my life—I moved overseas at the age of 22. Now, at 32, Dily and I are doing it all over again.

Moving overseas isn’t just about escaping routine. It’s about finding purpose, breaking away from societal norms, and immersing yourself in a meaningful life. In this newsletter, I’m sharing my journey, why travel is life-changing, and how it can reshape your life too.

Why I Moved Overseas at 22

At 22, I quit my job at a supermarket while going through a tough breakup. Everyone around me seemed to have their lives figured out, but I didn’t. So, I used travel as a way to escape. I booked a one-way ticket to London—and never looked back.

The first few months were rough. I was two weeks late on rent for three months straight, working late nights in a bar, and even scraping change off the dance floor just to afford food. But despite the struggle, I never felt more alive. For the first time, I wasn’t just existing—I was thriving.

Over time, I found my footing. I fell in love with the city, the people, and the hustle. I met friends from all over the world—France, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Czech Republic, Lithuania, Poland, and, of course, plenty of Aussies and Kiwis. Those late-night conversations in the bar after closing, beers in hand, made me realize how much bigger the world was than the small town I grew up in. I was finally out of my bubble.

Why We’re Moving Again

Fast forward 10 years, and after settling down and saving for a house, Dily and I realized that the settled life isn’t for us. We value experiences over possessions and purpose over security. That’s why we’re selling what we don’t need, storing what we want to keep, and heading off on another adventure—this time, through Southeast Asia, Europe, and the UK.

3 Reasons to Move Overseas

  1. Personal Growth
Putting yourself in a new environment forces you to become more resilient, adaptable, and appreciative of the simple joys in life.

  2. A Broader Perspective
Immersing yourself in different cultures helps you see the world in a new way. You start to question everything you thought you knew—and that’s a good thing.

  3. Creating a Life of Purpose
Moving abroad gives you a chance to rewrite your story. No one knows you. There are no expectations. You can break free from the traditional path and build a life on your own terms.

How You Can Do It Too

Moving overseas is just a series of small steps. Here’s how to get started:

  • Research Countries & Visas – Look into visa options, job opportunities, and cost of living.

  • Simplify Your Life – Sell what you don’t need and declutter. Less stuff makes moving easier.

  • Save Intentionally – Create a budget and stick to it. We’re giving away our free budgeting template, which you can download right here.

  • Take the Leap – The hardest part is buying that ticket. Everything else will fall into place.

Life is too short to live on autopilot. If you’ve been thinking about moving overseas, this is your sign. Don’t wait for the perfect time—it doesn’t exist. The world is waiting for you.
